Will AI take my job? Start with the work, not the title

Published Oct 11, 2026 · Examples checked Oct 11, 2026

Nobody can tell you from your job title alone whether your employer will replace your position with AI. A hiring board cannot either.

What we can show is narrower: which parts of familiar work employers are hiring people to do around AI, and what those employers require.

See current jobs on the Board, or start with the evidence below.

Exposure is not a layoff forecast

The International Labour Organization’s May 2025 study measures tasks that generative AI could affect. It does not measure jobs already lost.

Clerical work has high exposure. The study also identifies exposure in customer-support and marketing occupations, with differences between tasks.

Its broad conclusion is that changing jobs is more likely than automating whole occupations. That is not a promise of job security.

Employers can need fewer people even when only some tasks become automated. The study does not predict layoffs in the Charlotte region.

For paralegals, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics projects little or no national employment change from 2025 to 2035.

It says technology, including AI, can improve research and document-preparation efficiency, which may reduce demand. Replacement openings are not evidence of growth.

Neither finding tells you what your manager plans to do next month.

Customer support: check whether you already do quality work

The support-quality example checked on Oct 11 is not currently available on the Board, or its status cannot be checked.

Banking operations: controls experience matters, but there is another requirement

Bank of America’s Business Control Manager listing includes AI governance, risk assessments, approval records, monitoring and control testing.

The standard requirement is 5 years in audit, compliance or risk at a large financial-services company, with demonstrated progression and success.

Equivalent related financial-services experience is an alternative.

It separately requires experience supporting AI governance and oversight. Banking experience alone does not meet that requirement.

This is Govern work, not a beginner’s route into AI. Your strongest evidence may be control testing, remediation tracking and decision records.

If AI governance is the missing piece, name that gap rather than relabeling ordinary banking work as AI experience.

Marketing: AI is part of an established discipline

Continental’s Marketing Manager, Digital and Automation listing includes AI-enabled marketing, digital discovery, campaign measurement and automation.

The Fort Mill role is hybrid. Salary not listed.

Its required experience is 7+ years in digital marketing or related work, plus 2+ years of people leadership. A relevant bachelor’s degree is required.

The 10+ years figure is preferred, not the minimum. The role also asks for substantial search, analytics, website and marketing-technology expertise.

U.S. work authorization is required. Visa support is limited to qualifying internal candidates.

This is not a shortcut from occasional chatbot use to marketing management. It is an example of established marketing work taking on AI responsibilities.

Pick a next step you can verify

Make 3 columns: a task you already do, evidence you can show, and a requirement you have not met.

For customer support, that might be reviewing escalations, an anonymized quality checklist, and a missing spreadsheet-analysis skill.

For banking controls, it might be monitoring exceptions, a fictional control-testing example, and missing AI-governance experience.

Use fictional or properly anonymized examples. Do not upload customer, employer or legal-client information into public AI tools.

Compare your columns with 2 current listings before buying training. A course should address a named gap, not promise an AI-proof career.

You do not have to become an engineer to read the market. You do have to separate familiar responsibilities from unfamiliar requirements.

These examples illustrate requirements, not typical hiring, net job creation or job security. A visible listing does not guarantee its application is still open.
